Maths in Key Stage 1

In Key Stage 1, children develop a strong understanding of number, place value, calculation, measures, geometry and statistics through engaging, practical lessons. At Netherton CE Primary School, we follow the Power Maths scheme, which encourages deep mathematical thinking and reasoning. We use the CPA (Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract) approach, enabling children to explore mathematical concepts using practical resources, represent their thinking through pictures and diagrams, and then apply their understanding using numbers and symbols. This helps pupils build confidence, fluency and a secure understanding of key mathematical concepts.
