Eco Team
The Eco Team are responsible for promoting and contributing to a greener and more sustainable school environment. They are responsible for raising awareness of environmental issues, encouraging recycling and reducing waste, helping to care for our school grounds and wildlife, and promoting ways in which our school community can save energy and resources. The Eco Team work together to share ideas, lead environmental projects and encourage pupils and adults across the school to make positive choices for our planet. All pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 have the opportunity to be a part of the Eco Team.
Selecting the Eco Team
During the first few weeks of the academic year, class teachers identify pupils from KS1 and KS2 who demonstrate enthusiasm for caring for our school and the planet. We look for children who are keen to develop their communication and leadership skills and who are willing to share their passion for environmental issues with others. These pupils are then nominated to become members of the Eco Team.
Roles and Responsibilities
Eco Team members are responsible for:
- Being Eco Champions – promoting positive environmental choices and encouraging others to care for our school and planet.
- Reducing waste – encouraging recycling, reusing resources and reducing unnecessary waste around school.
- Saving energy and water – helping pupils and staff to think about how we can use energy and water responsibly.
- Caring for our school grounds – helping to look after plants, outdoor spaces and areas that support wildlife and biodiversity, including the outdoor learning area (forest school).
- Leading Eco projects – suggesting, planning and supporting environmental projects and activities across the school.
- Working as a team – listening to others, sharing ideas and working cooperatively to make positive changes.
- Being role models – demonstrating our school values and making environmentally responsible choices in their own behaviour.
- Communicating with others – feeding back ideas and concerns from their class and sharing Eco Team updates with pupils and staff.
Projects and Initiatives Led by the Eco Team:
Eco Schools Project: This academic year, we will be registering and working on the Eco Schools Project. This encourages pupils to take an active role in identifying environmental issues within their school and community, developing projects to make positive changes and inspiring others to care for our planet. Through the Eco-Schools programme, children learn that their ideas and actions can make a real difference to the environment.
