Frequently Asked Questions

SEND is the abbreviation used for ‘Special Educational Needs and Disabilities’.

Children are all different and make progress at different rates. They have different ways in which they learn best. Our teachers take account of this in the way they organise their lessons and teaching. Children making slower progress or having particular difficulties in one area may be given additional support to help them succeed.

The needs of a child with SEND will come under one or more of these four areas, as outlined in the SEND Code of Practice (2015):

1. Communication and Interaction

2. Cognition and Learning

3. Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties

4. Sensory and/or Physical needs

If your child is identified as having a special educational need, you will be informed and with your consent, your child will be added to our school SEND register at ‘SEN Support’. An Individual Education Plan (IEP) will be created for your child, outlining smart targets relating to their personal area/s of need. These will be reviewed every term with you, your child and their class teacher.

SEN support takes the form of a four-part cycle (assess, plan, do, review).
